Besides being
a name of a popular song,
this is one of the most
recognizable Japanese traditional
dishes. The ingredients
are thinly sliced beef,
tofu, , green onion, "
shiitake" mushroom,
and garland chrysanthemum
leaves. These are cooked
in a large pot of broth
made from soy sauce, sugar,
sake etc. After everyone
finished eating, "udon"noodles
or "mochi" rice
cakes are cooked in the
remaining broth.
Sukiyaki is most enjoyed
during the winter months,
sharing with family and
friends. Each person uses
small bowls to receive their
share. In America, individual
portions are available.
