OIWAKE originally started as a folk song izakaya. The president and owner say that they want foreigners, as well as Japanese customers, to feel nostalgic Japan in their store. The customer service is splendid, and the way the servers treat you makes the food even more delicious.
There are over 150 seats to make a pretty spacey restaurant. They can accommodate small groups to huge parties, and many customers visit on special occasions. Also, there is the ever-popular karaoke machine in the store. Their selection is made for foreigners too, with many songs to choose from. The huge bar has various drinks to choose from, including cocktails using vodka and shochu. And of course, they go well with the restaurant dishes. This is definitely a store you would want to bring your friends to.

Their main attraction is the buffet that is available for both lunch and dinner. You’d be surprised at the low price, but great taste is guaranteed. The best part of a buffet is having your favorite food available infinitely. Their buffet is popular with many people, especially with the locals. The lunch buffet is $6.75, while the dinner buffet is $8.00. There are about 25 to 30 items to choose from. Their most popular items are the teriyaki chicken, California rolls, and tempura. They also have items that change daily, which includes oden, hamburg steak, curry—over 20 items to look forward to every time you visit.

Today when I visited them, their daily special was pork ginger. The combination of sweet onion and pork made rice go down my throat easily. Again, the popular tempura has vegetables such as carrots, onions, and sweet yams. The outside is crunchy, the inside moist. They also have an interesting dish—a California roll deep-fried, called the Roll Ten. The variety of dishes is overwhelming. The piping hot tempura that comes fresh out of the kitchen is crispy and fun to munch. When you put the tempura sauce on it, it melts in your mouth. The teriyaki chicken, popular among Americans, is very juicy. Every bite you take gushes with juice. When you put the homemade teriyaki sauce on it, the taste is accentuated and becomes incredibly soft.
